Chi-chi moiSee the full collection at the shopHello and welcome to ‘Chi-Chi Moi’, where designer Jan Ollis dreams up nostalgic and sometimes quirky knitted and crochet accessories.
Jan trained in textile design using high-tech digital printing to create many of her initial fabric designs. It was after working as a freelance textile designer that Jan took the rather more traditional and low-tech approach in her work and began ‘Chi-Chi Moi’.
After looking unsuccessfully for a special and unusual gift for a good friend she made a corsage, using the crochet skills she had been taught when she was young.
The friend was delighted with her gift and promptly asked for more to give as presents. Word seemed to spread and before long the corsages were selling in shops.
The range has now grown into key fobs, hairclips, necklaces and even rings. Jan hopes that all Chi-Chi Moi products offer a hint of nostalgia, which she creates by using vintage buttons, specialist yarns and even found objects in her designs.
If you are wondering what Chi-Chi Moi means, the loose translation is ‘fashionably frilly’ (Chi-Chi) and ‘Me’ (Moi)! | |
