I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University where I studied Metalwork and Jewellery.
The measurements collection evolved from the discovery of a plastic measuring tape one year in a Christmas cracker!
I was inspired to explore other forms of measurement and the use of different measuring implements.
I also began to investigate the measurement of the body and asked myself what we use to measure wealth and love.
Text is an important aspect of my work, which aims to present the concept of measurement in the form of numbers and words.
One of my inspirations is the cotton labels you find inside your clothes, and I try to recreate this in my work (with a bit of a twist!).
Photo-etching is the perfect way to mimic these labels as I can transfer the design onto metal, whilst still retaining the similarity to the original cotton label.
Creating a humorous narrative for the labels is done by exchanging washing instructions for advice on how a petite person can appear taller!
Another significant group of my work focuses on my vital statistics, such as my height, shoe and bra size.
I use a contrast of silver and acrylic for these pieces - the acrylic makes the jewellery seem light and colourful and the silver adds weight and a sense of something precious.
