Magpie Belle is actually a design philosophy. Taken from the Latin; Magpieus Belleus, it essentially translates as; to permanently borrow and make pretty things.*
Not to encourage blatant thievery from others, which is obviously wrong and could result in a lengthy spell in jail, it is more a nod to the handsome but slightly light-fingered Magpie, a clever bird with a beady eye for the sparkly.
This just means borrowing (forever), a few little gems I happen upon in books, songs, poems and the odd infamous fashion magazine, to make a pretty picture. The stars of these pictures, the belles of the ball, are the lucky girls in fancy frocks, wearing hats fashioned from paper parrots or lobster shells. They don't work and mostly spend their time drinking champagne whilst stepping out for a walk with a Zebra. Just floating about, looking special.
